My Name is David, and this is my story….

After  50 years as a professional press photographer, during covid, with my astro-buddie James , we  "went back to school" to learn the techniques of deep sky astro photography.

After acquiring matched telescopes and equipment,  and capturing my first image of Andromeda,  we have spent the last 18 months building up a varied set of images of nebulae and galaxies which are now available for you to view. It's a trip back in time to see the Universe as it was millions of light years ago interpreted through the gaze of modern astrophotographers.

We hope you enjoy our Astro art -  David Lowndes

My Name is James, and this is my story….

For me, my journey into Astrophotography,

“Which I blame my dear friend David for getting me into.”

Started when we decided to buy a portable motorised equatorial mount, a battery-operated sky tracker the Star Adventurer. This would enable us to take long exposures of the night sky with our digital cameras without the stars trailing.

This was the start of a massive learning curve, lots of persistence and plenty of wasted clear nights.

Mid 2022; by this time, we had progressed into telescopes and dedicated astrophotography cameras etc. I produced my first successful image NGC 6960 “The Witches Broom” part of the veil nebula complex in the constellation Cygnus – this got me hooked.

Up until this point I would often ring David during an attempted imaging session to say that is it I have had enough of this I cannot do it I am selling my equipment! Thankfully I didn’t sell it.

Thank you for visiting us - James Cowlan

well it isn’t.”
